About Us

A-1 Appliance... Serving Burlington County since 1959.

About A1 Appliance Sales and Service

In 1959, a 17-year-old Tom Watson got his start in the appliance business at his uncle's Riverside, NJ store.

Over the course of his decades-long career in the business, Watson has seen large chain appliance dealerships in the South Jersey area fall prey to the marketplace again and again while his A-1 Washer & Appliance Service has stayed afloat.

In 2001, Tom Watson put up a sign in front of his Route 130 Delran store to bring the point home. As it reads: "Big Boys Come, Go - We're Still Here - 42 Years".

Customers choose A-1 over the many box stores and selling appliances in the area because they receive personal service and a wealth of knowledge the A-1 Appliance team provides.

"The minute you lose touch with your customers,", Watson says, "you start losing your business."

Which is why Watson, along with his wife Eileen, help manage A-1. The team still does their own deliveries and installation and services everything A-1 sells.

To add a special touch that they are adamant about, they are careful to take time to let customers clean behind appliances that are getting replaced.

It's the little things like that, that the big box and chain stores just can't, or won't, provide.

The same goes for expertise. Small appliance stores like A-1 have become libraries of information, places where consumer go to be educated.

All too often, though, these same folks then go to a chain store for their purchases, thinking that they will get a better price there. Yet if you compare model for model, A-1's prices are the same as the big guys'. And to make sure that's true, Watson himself shops the competition regularly.

Competitive prices, however, are not really the source of A-1's success. It's not a matter of what price A-1 offers, but what it will do for them and whether it fits their needs.

Such expertise won't be found on the sales floors of the chain stores, which tend to offer convenience at the expense of quality.

A-1 has approximately 15 to 20 customers each month who come in to have A-1 fix installations that larger outfits have botched. It's just another symbol of A-1 Appliance's quality and knowledge, delivered to each and every customer.

Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno visited A-1 on September 6th, 2013
during a "Main Street" walk in Delran.

"Small businesses are incredibly valuable to our overall economic prosperity and contribute to the fabric of communities across New Jersey," said Lt. Governor Guadagno. "Today is not only about celebrating their achievement and ongoing contributions to our quality of life but also stressing the Christie Administration's commitment to doing whatever we can to ensure their continued health and success. These ongoing conversations are essential to promote state services and programs developed to assist owners and operators in their current operations and future growth."

For more than 54 years, Tom Watson, owner and operator of A-1 Appliance, has been using his wealth of personal knowledge and service skills to help customers obtain, maintain and repair a wide array of appliances. In 1959, Watson's uncle introduced him to the business and he has been serving Burlington County and its neighboring communities ever since that time.

"As a business owner whose family-run operation is now servicing the children and the grandchildren of our original patrons, and a former planning board member in the Township, I have invested in this business, my customers and the community-at-large," said Tom Watson of A-1 Appliance. "I am pleased to have the opportunity to showcase our operations and also share my thoughts and concerns with the Lt. Governor."
